BDI Corr-A-Guard®
BDI CORR-A-GUARD®, or gravel-less systems, were designed in the
1980’s to replace gravel leach beds. Available in 6”, 8”, and 10”
diameters, these alternative systems enable the contractor/installer to
replace costly gravel with filter wrapped corrugated tubing where soil
conditions are favorable. BDI CORR-A-GUARD® features BDI’s patented
molded-on coupling.
Product Highlights
- BDI CORR-A-GUARD® is a septic system which utilizes
filter-wrapped pipe in place of gravel. The advantage of using BDI
CORR-A-GUARD® is evident in areas where gravel is scarce and
expensive. In addition, gravel-less systems generally require less
excavating than traditional systems. This equates to less costs for
the homeowner and contractor.
- Two holes, each 3/8” to 1/2” in diameter, are drilled in the
valleys of alternating corrugations, 60° from either side of the
bottom of the pipe. In addition, BDI CORR-A-GUARD® is covered with
an approved spun bond geo-textile fabric. This product is stored in
a heavy duty polyethylene bag or sleeve for protection during
storage and shipping. (Hole requirements may vary from area to area
and 4-hole systems are available.) Contractors should check with
their local health department to determine requirements in their
area.
- BDI CORR-A-GUARD® acts as a conveyance and storage system for
the septic tank effluent and as a secondary treatment process to the
effluent. The large diameter tubing provides better oxygen transfer
capabilities due to the additional storage capacity and increased
retention time.
- The pipe creates a settling basin for the organic solids
carryover from the septic tank. The settled soils are then further
stabilized by bacterial action, producing a quality effluent from
the gravel-less tubing and reducing the organic load on the soil.
Features & Benefits
- Reduced labor and installation costs. Gravel-less systems
generally require less excavating than traditional systems.
- BDI CORR-A-GUARD® 6”, 8”, and 10” is lightweight and easy to
handle. The pipe is manufactured in 20’ sections and has a molded-on
coupling for faster installation.
- Larger storage capacity for effluent; thus, improved
distribution of wastewater in the trench.
- Increased retention of solids in the pipe, which enhances the
main aerobic treatment in the septic tank.
